Turkey Busters 7: Jesus Changes Everything

Verse: I give thanks to God who saves me. He saves me through Jesus Christ our Lord – Romans. 7:25 NIrV

Big Idea: Jesus loves us no matter what.

Throughout this series we’ve seen how selfishness causes us to act like turkeys, but loving God and loving other people can bust those turkeys in our lives.

Can you remember the four turkey busters we’ve talked about so far?  Here they are:

1. Thankfulness

Thankfulness causes us to stop and thank God for the good things we have our in our lives, even when things don’t go our way.

2. Humility

Humility is making a big deal out of God and others and not about ourselves. It helps us stop trying to impress people and enjoy the life God gives us.

3. Serving

We can show God’s love to others by doing the jobs no one else wants to do. Serving helps us to become more like Jesus.

4. Worship

When we focus on God and his goodness, worship helps us not to worry.  It frees us from fear and shows the world God is real.

Believe it or not, there was once a man who was an expert at all of these things.  His name, of course, was Jesus.

  1. Jesus was thankful.

He gave thanks to the Father even on the night before He went to the cross (Matthew 26:26-27).

  1. Jesus was humble.

Even though he is the Son of God, Jesus gave up his place in heaven to come to earth to save us. While here on earth, he was always making a big deal out of the Father and not himself (Philippians 2:6-8).

  1. Jesus was a servant.

Remember when he washed his friends’ feet? He did the jobs no one else wanted to do, including the hardest job of all, giving up his life on the cross (Mark 10:45).

  1. Jesus was worshipful.

He was constantly pointing people to the Father and even sang a worship song on the night he knew he would be arrested (Matthew 26:30).

Think About It:

Jesus, the expert turkey buster, can help us to bust the turkeys in our own lives. But here’s the best news: he loves us even when we don’t.

Jesus died on the cross for the wrong things we’ve done. He paid the price for our selfishness.  It’s his forgiveness and power that helps us to change.

Yes, Jesus wants us to grow in our love for God and others, but he loves us no matter what. That means we don’t have to obey him to earn his love.  We can obey him because of his love.

Prayer: Jesus, you are awesome. Thanks for dying for us so we can live for you. Help us to grow in our love for God and others. Amen.

Talk About It:

  1. Which turkey buster is the easiest for you to practice?
  2. Which is the hardest?
  3. How does it make you feel knowing that Jesus loves you no matter what?
